Do I need to have any vaccination to enter Vietnam?
The only proof of vaccination required by international regulations for entry into Vietnam remains the yellow fever vaccination if you have visited a country in the yellow fever zone within the past six days. Nonetheless, it is highly advisable to stay updated with the following vaccinations to mitigate any risk of diseases:
Adult diphtheria and tetanus - A single booster is recommended if you have not received one in the last 10 years.
Hepatitis A - This vaccine provides nearly 100% protection for up to a year; a booster after 12 months extends protection for at least another 20 years.
Hepatitis B - This vaccine is now routinely recommended for most travelers. It is administered in three doses over six months. A rapid schedule is available, as well as combined vaccinations with Hepatitis A. Lifetime protection is achieved in approximately 95% of recipients.
Typhoid - The vaccination is suggested to protect against typhoid, which can be contracted from contaminated food or water in Vietnam, particularly if your stay exceeds one week or includes regions outside developed cities. The vaccine provides about 70% protection and remains effective for two to three years.
